In the morning, it had stopped raining again though the paths were muddy. Breakfast was lovely, I wolfed down about 4 slices or oranges, porridge with honey, scrambled egg and bacon and felt much better, apart from a slight cold which was beginning to surface. It seems I had put it on hold until the hard part was done, and once I started to relax the cold took hold, as Dave can testify to!
We broke up camp about 8.30am, and headed for the 3 hour walk through the forested paths again. This time, the whole group were together again and everyone was in good form. Some people spotted monkeys in the canopy above..I was just trying to stop myself from slipping and sliding any more to be able to look up for any length of time! Emerging out of the forest, we arrive to the gate, where we sign in and register. With the formalities out of the way, the porters gether together and photos are taken, the monies are paid over for a really good job of looking after us, and as a favour thay treat us to a chorus of "Kilimanjaro" a local song.
Piling into the minivans again, its great to sit down again. No problems on the trip back to the Mountain Inn in Moshi. Drop the bags off in the rooms and hit the pub for a good few beers. That evening after shaving / showering for the first time in 6 days, a gang of us headed up to Gladys's again to buy some souvenirs and play pool and drink more beer. Actually managed to beat one of the locals which was flucky!
In the morning we headed off on a day safari into Arusha National Park. It was excellent. Spotted warthogs, giraffes, hippos, baboons, blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, flamingos and water bison. After that we said our goodbyes to a few of the group who were heading for Zanzibar to chillout for a few days while the rest of us were heading back in the morning.
